And in Hell…

Last words of dying atheists.

While I lived, I provided for everything but death;

now I must die, and am unprepared to die.”

-Caesar Borgia

“Stay with me, for God’s sake; I cannot bear to be lift alone, O Lord, help me! O God what have I done to suffer so much? What will become of me hereafter?

I would give words if I had them, that the Age of Reason had never been published. O Lord, help me! Christ help me!

No, don’t leave; stay with me! Send even a child to stay with me; for I am on the edge of hell here alone. If ever the Devil had an agent, I have been that one.”

-Thomas Payne

“Until this moment I thought there was neither a God nor a hell. Now I know and feel that there are both, and I am doomed to perdition by the just judgment of the Almighty.”

-Sir Thomas Scott

“I have swallowed nothing but smoke. I have intoxicated myself with the incense that turned my head. I am abandoned by God and man.

“He said to his physician, Dr. Fochin: “I will give you half of what I am worth if you will give me six months of life. ” When he was told it was not possible, he said, “Then I shall die and go to hell!”

His nurse said: “For all the money in Europe I wouldn’t want to see another unbeliever die! All night long he cried for forgiveness.

-Voltaire

He cried loud on his death bed “I am in flames!” It is said his desperation was a horrible scene.

-David Hume

“You need not tell me there is no God, for I know there is one, and that I am in his presence! You need not tell me there is no hell. I feel myself already slipping.

Wretches, cease your idle talk about there being hope for me! I know I am lost forever! Oh, that fire! Oh, the insufferable pangs of hell!

Oh, that I could lie for a thousand years upon the fire that is never quenched, to purchase the favor of God and be united to Him again. But it is a fruitless with.

Millions and millions of years will bring me no nearer the end of my torments than one poor hour. Oh, eternity, eternity forever and forever! Oh, the insufferable pangs of Hell.

-Sir Francis Newport

19 Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day: 20 and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; yea, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried. 23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted, and thou art in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us. 27 And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house; 28 for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead.”

(Luke 16:19-31, ASV)

Why do some deny hell?

1. Annihilationist: “extinguished”

++Ceased to exist.

2. Sentimentalist: “Exonerated”

++God of love would never destine anyone to hell.

3. Universalist:

++All must be destined for salvation.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

II Peter 3:9 KJV

4. False Religionist:

 Purgatory

How do we know the certainty of hell?

1). Logic and sensibility define it.

2). Scriptures declare it.

but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, ad cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Matthew 5:22, 29, 30

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Matthew 25:46 KJV

Hell is certain!!
