The incarnation (God being made flesh) and the virgin birth were necessary for our salvation!
God gave Adam and Eve dominion in the Garden of Eden.
Our dominion was lost by a man (1st Adam). The only way it can be returned is by another man- Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.
How?? Better question is, Why??
-Sin
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 ESV
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
Romans 5:12 ESV
-Sin must be paid for- Atonement
-Atonement is by blood
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Jesus
Jesus came as He did (virgin birth) to be what He was (sinless) to do what He did (die a substitutionary death), so that we might become sons and daughters of God.In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God is the only one qualified to die on the cross for our salvation.
We are all sheep (fully man). But Jesus (fully God, truly man) is the perfect Lamb!
The virgin birth is Good News .
Because our iniquity (sin) is on Jesus, His righteousness is on us.
Bottomline:
-Can a person reject the virgin birth and be a Christian?
No
-Christianity is not a collection of random truths that any one truth can be dropped.
-It is truth- the whole truth.
God never says, “Pick and choose what you want to believe.”
