It is Well With My Soul… Even When it Doesn’t Feel Like it
It is well with my soul but…..
- •It’s not what it feels like
- •It’s not what it looks like
- •God is doing a new thing
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19 ESV
God is still doing a new work, but often it becomes a struggle or barrier for us.
Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
Hebrews 6:1 ESV
Promise:
•God is _always_ doing a new work in you.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
II Corinthians 5:17 ESV
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:23 ESV
Problem:
It is what it is and that’s just the _way I am_.
Question:
•How is it working for you?
•Are you satisfied?
•Is that enough for you?
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19 ESV
Remember:
- •Who God is.
1 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
3a For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
Isaiah 43:11 , 14a, 15 – I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.
14a Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
15 Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters,
Isaiah 43:1-3a, 11, 14a, 15 ESV
- What God has done.
Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
Isaiah 43:16-17 ESV
- What we need to do.
Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Isaiah 43:18 ESV
Why would God want us to “forget” about former blessings?
Let’s put this together…….
Remember who God is and what He has done.
But forget about the way He has blessed because God is going and is doing something different, it’s new.
Side note:
•You can not put God in a box!
Isaiah 43:19 ESV
Here’s the “new thing”…….
1). What was a barrier Now becomes a blessing.
- •In other words, what you are in becomes your out!
2). What was your hurt Now becomes His glory!
- •In other words, what is broken becomes well with my soul.
3). God is more interested in your now, in “the wilderness” than your past experiences.
