Jesus: Our Role Model

21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

I Peter 2:21

1). Christ put God the Father _first_ in his life.

God is not your back up plan. . .

++God IS YOUR PLAN.

2). Christ was completely _genuine_.

What comes to your mind when you say that someone is genuine or real?

Six characteristics of a genuine person:

++1. Authenticity

++2. Honesty

++3. Empathy

++4. Consistency

++5. Acceptance

++6. Kindness

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.

Matthew 23:27

They (hypocrites) only take care of what others could see and neglect what God can see.

Cultural Christianity

No one should ever question Jesus’ genuineness.

++Why?

Because trials and sufferings reveal genuineness!

21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

I Peter 2:21

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,

7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

I Peter 1:6-7 NKJV

6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

I Peter 1:6 ESV

7 So that the tested genuineness of your faith-more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire- may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

I Peter 1:7 ESV

Trials do to faith what fire does to gold.

1. Purifies.

-God purifies our faith with trials by helping us realize the inadequacy of anything but trust in Him.

2. Shows it to be what it really is.

– God shows that our life is genuine by demonstrating that our joy in trials rests confidently in Him?

Both purification and revelation brings praise, glory, and honor to God.

Christ, our role model in the family of God, was completely genuine.

Is that true about you?

Exterior traits of a genuine follower of Christ. . .

35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:35 ESV

I Peter 3:8 ESV

2. You aren’t afraid to root for your team.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:16 ESV

3. Yor life displays your loyalty.

20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

Matthew 7:20 ESV

II Corinthians 6:14 ESV

++4). Christ was bold and _uncompromising_.

21 And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching.

22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

Mark 1:21-22 ESV

Compromise means to surrender your principles, values, and/or morals.

51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

Luke 9:51 NIV

Luke 9:51 Amplified

21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.
