Much More: Something To Rejoice About

Much More: Something To Rejoice About -Romans 5:9-11 ESV

Today’s message . . . . . .

“Much more”

*You can know that your hope for heaven is _secure_.

Have you come to a place in your spiritual life where you can say you know for certain, that if you were to die today, you would go to heaven?

Suppose that you were to die today and stand before God and He were to say to you, “Why should I let you into My heaven?”

What would you say?

(Kennedy, Evangelism Explosion)

Question:

*Do you think it’s crucial to know that your hope in heaven is secure?

Have you fully trusted Jesus alone and His death in your place to forgive you from all of your sins through faith?

Has there been a radical change and what are the evidences of your new birth that you see in your life?

Is there an inner witness of the Spirit that demonstrate and testify to your new life in Christ?

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Romans 5:9-11 ESV

1. We were all enemies of God and needed to be _reconciled_. (V9-10)

“reconcile” is used to speak to our relationship with God in terms of _restoration_.

5 Biblical Terms That Summarize Our Salvation:

Justification= accused and now declared righteous.

Redemption= a slave and now is granted freedom by a _ransom_.

Forgiveness= a debtor and now that debt is _paid_ and _forgotten_.

Reconciliation= an enemy and now becomes a _friend_.

Sonship/Adoption= a stranger and now becomes a child of God.

2. Only God can rescue us from the wrath of God. (V9)

“wrath of God” means the coming day of judgement.

“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:11–15 (ESV)

3. Both God’s past and future work to rescue us are through the work of _Christ_. (V9-10)

Our past, present, and future are all secure because of Christ’s work and God’s love.

Past

 * For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Ephesians 2:8

Present

 * For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

I Corinthians 1:18

Future

*Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

Romans 5:9

Good thing to remember and to rejoice about. . . . .

Being in Christ means it is safe to forget the _past_, it is possible to be sure of the _future_, and there is strength to be faithful in the _present_!

4. There is great rejoicing in _knowing_ that we are rescued and saved through our Lord Jesus Christ. (V11)
