God is a God of miracles!!

Anybody need a miracle?

Jesus turns Water to Wine:  John 2:1-11 ESV

Defining a miracle:

What is a miracle?

“An act of God, contrary to natural law as human beings understand it but not contrary to natural law as God understands it and which He performs in accordance wit His will and redemptive purpose.”

-Herschel Hobbs

But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”

Luke 18:27 ESV

“As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause,

who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number:

Job 5:8-9 ESV

“It’s a _God thing_.”

-Gary Fine

Dangers of miracles:

  • _Demand_

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”  But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Matthew 12:38-39 ESV

  • _Not now, back then_.

And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.  And Jesus said to him, “If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”

Mark 9:22-23 ESV

   Miracle Principle:

Believe in miracles, but trust in Jesus.

So, what about when I need a miracle?

  • Miracles and _faith_ go hand in hand.

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

John 2:3-5 ESV

  • Miracles and _obedience_ go hand in hand.

So, when you need a miracle, it is important to ask some questions. . . .

  • Have I done all that I could do?
  • Have I completely trusted God in prayer?
  • Am I asking God for His glory?
  • Miracles and _God’s glory_ go hand in hand.

This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

John 2:11 ESV

It’s not about us, but about God.

  • Miracles and _God’s purpose_ go hand in hand.

Are the miracles in the Bible to be taken literally?

Yes!!!

IS God a God of miracles and wonders?

Yes!!!

God does not use miracles just as a way of proving or authenticating Himself.

  • _Reveals_ Himself.
  • Captures our attention.
  • Reveals _truth/message_.
