Have a Merry “Messy” Christmas

John 1:1–14
“He was in the world . . . . .”
Jesus was “ALL IN!”
“. . .and the world was made through him. . . .”
“. . . .yet the world did not know him.”
John 1:11
Why?

• We want a Messiah who will benefit us and get us out of this mess.
Look how Jesus’ life was really messy. . . . . .

• Illegitimate
• Blended family
• Political refuge
• Single parent
• Homeless
• Law breaker
• Poor
• Accused of being demon possessed
• Rejected and wounded by close friends and family
• Abandoned by disciples and even his Father on the cross
So when the Bible says Jesus was “in the world”- He was “all in” . . .every messy struggle, hardship, heartache, loss, temptation.
Isaiah 7:14
“Emmanuel” = God with us.
A baby in a barn??

• Mistake?
• Mishap?
• Marginal error?
Nope! It was a mission statement from heaven.
Jesus comes into our messy world for us, to demonstrate his love that shows us that he understands our messy lives, our hardships, struggles, fears, doubts, and brokenness.
Universal and Eternal Truth:

• You can’t effectively love someone without a benchmark of understanding.
Proverbs 3:13
1 Peter 3:7
Revelation 21:4
Christmas is about God who loves you so much that He is willing to see your messy world from your perspective. God willfully walked in your shoes, experienced your personal struggles and pains just to show you His love. God understands!!
Proverbs 14:4
Honestly, God is love. . . . even when it’s messy.
