Trusting God When It is More Than You Can Handle

Can God Be Trusted When God Gives You More Than You Can Handle?

“God won’t give you more than you can handle.”

Reasons why this “make people feel better” spiritual landmine is not correct.

  • The Bible does not endorse this.

1 Corinthians 10:13

“Temptation”

  • a sin test
  • a trial test
  • a suffering test

Exegetical Fallacy:

The reading into every possible meaning of the use of a single word without the communicated intent of context.

1 Corinthians 10:13

Contextual meaning:

No one will be tempted by _sin_ beyond what we can bear nor what we can escape.

  • The Bible actually teaches the opposite.

2 Corinthians 1:8–10

Think this way. . . . . . .

If God only gives us what WE can handle, then we will. . . . .

  • Never be _dependent_ on Him.
  • Never _step_ outside our comfort zone.
  • Never _grow_ spiritually.

Ok, I get it! God allows more than I can handle.

Let’s reset our minds when we can’t face another life challenge.

1. Remember, you are in good company.

Psalm 69:2

Matthew 26:38

2. Find a promise: God is faithful to meet us in the mess and pain.

John 16:33

2 Corinthians 12:7–10

3. Discover His _grace_: God is sufficient.

2 Corinthians 12:9

4. Allow it to be _more_: God uses the weak things.

Final thought

God won’t give you more than _He can handle_.

In your power, you have no chance to handle what God allows to take place in your life.

In Christ’s power, the enemy has no chance!

And God will empower you to handle whatever He allows!
